Athelas
began it's journey in 1976. The first mission was to develop
innovative work and educational opportunities in the community
for individuals to whom those opportunities had previously been
unavailable.
Educationally,
Athelas developed a program in conjunction with the Community
College of Baltimore County, Catonsville Campus, which provided
classes on and off campus and access to college facilities.
This was a first of it's kind program in Maryland and continues
to this day.
Over
time, Athelas has developed residential services, individual
support services and specialized services for individuals with
brain injuries, autism and those who are dually diagnosed with
both intellectual disabilities and mental health issues.
Since
it's inception, Athelas Institute continues to be a recognized
leader in the field for providing creative programs and plans.
